What to do if you need an emergency dentist:

Each day we have a number of timeslots reserved for patients experiencing a dental emergency. Our staff aim to slot patients in as soon as possible when an emergency arises.

Step 1: Please give our receptionist as much information as possible when you call to make an emergency dental booking. That way we can prepare the surgery for you and allocate the correct amount of time for the treatment.

Step 2: When you arrive, our friendly qualified dental team will talk to you to find out more about your level of pain and discomfort, how it came about and what steps have been taken so far (including any medications).

Step 3: A variety of diagnostic tools, for example x-rays may be required if the full extent of the damage cannot be determined from a visual assessment of your mouth.

Step 4: Our staff will present the recommended treatment options and a quote for you to choose from – ranging in price as well as long or short term longevity – such as fillings, crowns or shaving the affected sharp edges of the tooth.

Step 5: We help answer any questions you may have to help you make the right choice for your mouth.

Do you have treatment options under sedation, general anaesthetic, gas?

We understand that some procedures we do can be quite daunting and we try in every way to explain the process and make you feel as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities for sedation, general anaesthetic or nitrous oxide available, but we can discuss your options with you, and should you require it, refer you to someone who can provide these services. We find that many of our patients feel much less anxious when they have the procedure explained to them, so that they know what to expect. Our friendly team of dentists, front office staff and dental nurses try to be as helpful as possible to guide you through this process.

I have a toothache, does that mean I need a root canal treatment?

No, not necessarily. There are many reasons for a toothache and needing a root canal treatment is just one of them. A toothache could be the result of an acidic mouth environment, a chipped filling, decay, or something else entirely! Symptoms that could indicate you need a root canal treatment include a darkened or discoloured tooth, intense throbbing pain, or the presence of an abscess. After consulting with you and finding out more about your pain, the dentist will advise you on the best course of action for you, as well as options for further treatment, if required.

Is payment required on the day of the treatment?

Yes, we ask that accounts are settled on the day of treatment. Where a treatment plan requires multiple visits, we like our patients to meet with our dentists first for a short consultation. This allows us to explain the plan, what each visit will entail, and any alternative options and their costs. This allows you to communicate with your dentist to answer any of your questions, as well as with your health fund prior to treatment so that you are aware of any out of pocket costs that they may not cover.
